On October 6, 2019, GCh. Ch. Brightluck Money Talks, “Dazzle,” owned by Keith Bailey (Shaireab’s Bayleigh, then Bayleigh) and Janet McBrien (Brightluck), and presented by Tracy Szaras, won Best of Breed under the distinguished terrier judge Mr. Clay Coady, and continued on to win Best in Show under the esteemed breeder judge Mr. David Kirkland. With GCh. Ch. Abbeyrose Captain Jack, “Captain Jack,” winning BIS in 2018, it was consecutive years win for Welsh Terriers at the prestigious Montgomery County Kennel Club—the greatest terrier show in the world.

Many thought, what a marvelous highpoint for the rare breed. Upon further study, amazingly, the feat has happened three times in Welsh Terrier history. Read the story, “Three Double Lightning Strikes for Welsh Terriers at Montgomery County Kennel Club,” in Publications.

During limited showing in his specials career in 2018, “Dazzle” was awarded three of four Best of Breed wins the weekend of the Montgomery County Kennel Club cluster, Best of Breed at the AKC National Championship, and Best in Show at the Brevard Kennel Club show in Orlando, besting 4,100 dogs. In addition to his 2019 Montgomery win, “Dazzle” won the Welsh Terrier Club of America floating National Specialty in Louisville, Kentucky, and Group One Terrier at the AKC National Championship in Orlando. “Dazzle” ended 2019 with a dazzling 160 Group First and 37 Best in Show wins that cumulatively earned his titles as America’s Number One Terrier and Number Four Dog All Breeds. He remarkably repeated the feat in 2020 at America’s Number One Terrier, and ended the year as Number Six Dog All Breeds. Dazzle is the No. 1 ranked AKC Welsh Terrier Grand Champion with 750 points.

Owned by Keith Bailey (Shaireab’s Bayleigh, then Bayleigh) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and her longtime friend and breeder Janet McBrien (Brightluck) of Brightwood, Virginia, “Dazzle” is reminiscent of his sire, Multi-Best In Show/Multi-Best In Specialty Show GCh. Ch. Bayleigh Shaireab’s Super Hero, “Spyder,” the first Welsh Terrier to become a Grand Champion and a top-producing sire.

During their partnership, Keith Bailey with Sharon Abmeyer bred and owned the No. 1 Welsh Terrier in the country in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017 (as well as the No. 1 Terrier in America in 2017).

Janet McBrien (Brightluck) has bred and owned Welsh Terrier champions and performance dogs for more than twenty-five years, including the sire of 2018 Montgomery BIS winner GCh. Ch. Abbeyrose Captain Jack, “Captain Jack”—GCh. Ch. Cheshire Brightluck Gold Doubloon CA, “Gram.”

At three years of age, “Dazzle” is the seventh Welsh Terrier to be awarded Best In Show at the prestigious Montgomery County Kennel Club dog show, by 2019 BIS Judge David Kirkland. Handled by Tracy Szaras, he defeated 1,150 terriers. The other MCKC winners include Ch. Toplight Template of Twin Ponds in 1952 and 1953, Ch. Caradoc Llwyd of St. Aubrey in 1961, Ch. Dewi of St. Aubrey in 1962, Ch. Copperboots Wee Blaste in 1978, Ch. Anasazi Billy The Kid in 1996, and GCh. Ch. Abbeyrose Captain Jack in 2018.

Dazzle is the fourth Welsh Terrier to become Number One Terrier of the Year in the United States. The others are Ch. Golden Oak Jim Royal CD, “Jim” in 1970 and 1971, Ch. Anasazi Annie Oakley, “Annie” in 1985, and GCh. Ch. Shaireab’s Bayleigh Daenerys Stormborn, “Khaleesi” in 2017.
