The ultimate conformation apex, AKC Number One Terrier of the Year, has been awarded in the United States only five times to four Welsh Terriers: Ch. Golden Oak Jim Royal CD, “Jim” in 1970 and 1971, Ch. Anasazi Annie Oakley, “Annie” in 1985, GCh. Ch. Shaireab’s Bayleigh Daenerys Stormborn, “Khaleesi” in 2017, and GCh. Ch. Brightluck Money Talks, “Dazzle” in 2019.
“Khaleesi” earned 34 Best in Show and 132 Group First wins. In 2017 All-Breed competition, she defeated 33,305 dogs and was ranked No. 8 among all breeds. She is the No. 5 AKC Welsh Terrier Grand Champion with 452 points. She retired after Westminster in 2018 and lives in a loving home in Knoxville, Tennessee.
During their partnership, Sharon Abmeyer and Keith Bailey bred and owned the No. 1 Welsh Terrier in the country in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017 (as well as the No. 1 Terrier in America in 2017—“Khaleesi”), and now with Bayeligh Welsh Terriers, Keith Bailey co-owns with Janet McBrien (Brightluck) the No. 1 Welsh Terrier in the country in 2018 and 2019 (as well as No. 1 Terrier in America in 2019). Over all the years, their dogs have been expertly conditioned, cared for, and presented in the ring to great success by professional handlers Tracy Szaras and Luiz Antonio Abreu.
