Ch. Anasazi Annie Oakley, “Annie” is a legend like her compatriot Ch. Anasazi Billy The Kid, “Billy” (with the All-Time record of 100 Best in Show wins). In 1985, she was Top Terrier in America and the No. 3 dog All-Breeds with 24 Best in Show wins, defeating 42,000 dogs. Over her career, she earned 40 All-Breed Best in Show wins, 110 Terrier Group Firsts, and took the Terrier Group at Westminster, winning the Rockefeller Trophy in 1986.
Six Welsh Terriers have won the Westminster Kennel Club Terrier Group: Ch. Fornell Rare-Bit of Twin Ponds, “Rare-Bit,” who went on to win Best In Show in 1944 and was owned by Mrs. Edward P. (“Ernestine “) Alker (Twin Ponds); Ch. Twin Ponds Belle, “Belle,” owned by Mrs. Edward P. Alker, in 1949; Ch. Strathglass Venture’s Lucifer, owned by Hugh J. Chisholm (Strathglass) in 1952; Ch. Strathglass Trim Maid, owned by Strathglass Kennels in 1959; Ch. Anasazi Annie Oakley, “Annie,” owned by Capt. Jean L. Heath, USN (Ret.) (Black Watch), William H. Cosby, Jr., and Frank Bilger (Reglib) in 1986; and Ch. Sunspryte’s Just In Thyme, “Moxie,” owned by Capt. Jean L. Heath, USN (Ret.) (Black Watch), William H. Cosby, Jr., and Beth Bates (Westwyn) in 1999.
Since 1978, the winner of the Terrier Group has been awarded the William Rockefeller Trophy, earned by Ch. Anasazi Annie Oakley and Ch. Sunspryte Just In Thyme.
“Annie’s” full older brother, Ch. Anasazi Trail Boss, whelped in 1979, still holds the record for All-Time Top Sire in the breed.
GCh. Ch. Shaireab’s Bayleigh Maid of Honor, “Jennie,” broke “Annie’s” incredible 30- year record as Top Winning Welsh Terrier Bitch in 2014.
