“Captain Jack” was awarded his AKC Grand Championship just one week after earning his Championship. He won his first Welsh Terrier Club of America National Specialty at only 10 months of age. That win was followed by three more consecutive National Specialty wins: Montgomery Country Kennel Club 2017 (and Group 4), WTCA National Floating Specialty 2018 (and Group 2), and Montgomery County Kennel Club 2018 (and Best In Show).
At just 2 1⁄2 years of age, “Captain Jack” is only the fifth Welsh Terrier to be awarded Best In Show at the prestigious Montgomery County Kennel Club dog show, by 2018 BIS Judge Beth Sweigart. Handled by Leonardo Garcini, he defeated 1,211 terriers. The six other MCKC winners include Ch. Toplight Template of Twin Ponds in 1952 and 1953, Ch. Caradoc Llwyd of St. Aubrey in 1961, Ch. Dewi of St. Aubrey in 1962, Ch. Copperboots Wee Blaste in 1978, Ch. Anasazi Billy The Kid in 1996, and GCh. Ch. Brightluck Money Talks in 2019.
In her notes on the 2018 MCKC Welsh Terrier National Specialty, Judge Polly Smith remarked: “There was nothing that was going to deny my Best of Breed Dog on this day, GCh. Abbeyrose Captain Jack. He stood out to perfection from the moment he stepped into the ring—he said I am the winner. His outstanding coat was put down to perfection, his balance and movement were outstanding. Above all was his headpiece and expression, announcing to the world ‘I am a Welsh Terrier.’”*
“Captain Jack” is the No. 14 ranked AKC Welsh Terrier Grand Champion with 242 points. His owners have been raising Welsh Terriers with holistic practices, and exhibiting champions and performance dogs for more than 25 years.
