The Welsh Terrier first appeared in the show ring in Denmark in 1939. A few years later, Misses Aagard and Wittrock produced the first Danish Champion, Rodegards Una by Belwell Blazes and Pyrolas Bianca. Danish Welsh Terrier breeder Carl Borchorst noted Welsh Terriers never really appealed to the Danes, but were highly respected and popular in Germany and Sweden.

Borchorst wrote, “In the late sixties Elise Vangaa, Con Amore Kennels, imported Hardway Highnote who went BIS at a Terrier Club Jubilee Show, and at about the same time Bent Schmidt, Kennel Boserup, imported first, G.B.Ch. Sunstone Primrose and later on, Dk.Ch. Cedewain Crugyn, who by excellent temperament and beauty proved Welsh Terriers to be a breed to consider.”*

Int.Ch.DK.Ch.KBHW.83.BESG.83 Redpower’s Rumson Boy, “Johnny” earned 16 Best of Breed, 11 Best Terrier, 2 Reserve Best Terrier, 5 Best in Show, 3 BIS II, 2 BIS III and one BIS IV over his seven-and-a-half year career. Owned by Carl Borchorst and Ingrid Soborg, “Johnny” was bred (Ch.NV Groveview Red Rum x Redpower’s Tan Breeze) by Britt and Ake Ahlberg of Sweden and handled by Peter Hage.

Since 1975, Ingrid and Carl Borchorst have bred and owned more than 35 Welsh Terrier Champions who have won many group placements, Terrier of the Year in Denmark (“Johnny” in 1983 and Dk.Ch.KBHB.95.YWW.95.KB.Ch.NW.96 Borchorst Hoedown in 1996), and even No. 1 Dog All Breeds (“Johnny” in Denmark in 1983, and Int.Ch.Dk.Ch.DCH.IRL.CH.KBHW.89 Serenfach Claire, “Claire” in Ireland, acquired in 1988).

The Borchorst’s imported 14 Welsh Terriers to Denmark, including dogs from Mervyn Pickering (Groveview) and Mair and Eric Catherall (Serenfach) in Wales, Britt and Ake Ahlberg (Redpower) in Sweden, and Jan Albers (High Flyer) in Holland in order to keep the type of their Welsh Terriers as correct as possible with variation in the gene pool. They have also exported their Welsh Terriers to Finland, Norway, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Italy.
