The Grand Champion title was developed and approved by the AKC Delegate Body in 2009. The new title encourages exhibitor participation and camaraderie in the sport while emphasizing breed judging that recognizes quality and breed type.

GCh. Ch. Bayleigh Shaireab’s Super Hero, “Spyder,” was the first Welsh Terrier Grand Champion Dog, a title he earned in 2010. As of December 2020, five of the Top 10 Grand Champion Welsh Terriers are Shaireab’s Bayleigh/Bayleigh Shaireab’s/Bayleigh Brightluck dogs. “Spyder” is No. 18 with 201 Grand Championship points. His son – GCHG Ch. Brightluck Money Talks, “Dazzle” – is No. 1 with 750 points. His retired best friend is No. 2—GCHG Ch. Shaireab’s Bayleigh Maid of Honor, “Jennie,” with 700 points.

“Spyder’s” progeny includes seven Grand Champions, nine Champions, and one Canine Good Citizen.
“Spyder” passed over the rainbow bridge on January 7, 2021 as the sire or grandsire of the Number One Terrier in America in 2017, 2019, and 2020. He was thirteen, born July 21, 2007.

During their partnership, Sharon Abmeyer and Keith Bailey bred and owned the No. 1 Welsh Terrier in the country in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017 (as well as the No.1 Terrier in America in 2017), and now with Bayleigh Welsh Terriers, Keith Bailey co-owns with Janet McBrien (Brightluck) the No. 1 Welsh Terrier in the country in 2018, 2019, and 2020 (as well as the No.1 Terrier in America in 2019 and 2020). Over all the years, their dogs have been expertly conditioned, cared for, and presented in the ring to great success by professional handlers Tracy Szaras and Luiz Antonio Abreu.
